An unsuspecting young Princess and her mother the Queen are betrayed by those they trust most. Under cover of night, the Queen flees with her only child and hides her away in a village with locals to be raised as a simple country girl, till she can one day, reclaim her birthright.
Betrayal, being on the run, hiding in plain site, and learning what it takes to run a kingdom. These are not new ideas for a book, they've definitely been done. Maybe not exactly this way, and some of the tweeks thrown into the plot of this book made for a more interesting story line, but if you were looking for something new, you won't find it here.
And while this definitely wasn’t the best book I read all year, it wasn’t bad enough to DNF. It's a cute romp with some tear jerking moments, but honestly, there are too many characters to focus on any kind of development or back story, and the story starts so abruptly, there really isn't a whole lot if time for world building either, which is a pity, as there are currently 4 books in this series.
Overall, I give it 2.5 stars.
